Hi Marek
I just joined the site and saw your post. I have been researching my family - Stebbings (Holme Hale ) for some years and have got back to James and Elizabeth 1736, with some gaps. Please get in touch if you are still interested and perhaps we can help each other.
I tried to email you but was unsucessful.
Cheers
Rod

Hi Rod
My Mother was Amy Stebbings, born 1919 in Holme Hale. I have only a sketchy idea of history but would love to hear more. My Uncle, Eric Stebbings, who I thought was the last of the family died last week in Watton aged 90
Hope to hear from you
Cheers

Hi,
Sorry I haven't replied before, but I haven't been on here for a while.
I have a copy of an old family tree that my great uncle gave me, it goes as far back as as james and Elizabeth, but the date I have for James is B1766 and D19/2/1834.
He was married to an Elizabeth Cordy B1784 and D1865.
If you would like I can post you a copy.
If you want to email me send to marek.stebbings@tiscali.co.uk
Regards,
Marek

Hi Marek.
I'm new to this site, and found it just by chance, and am fascinated to see postings that I think could relate to my surname, as I believe my Grandfather came from the Holme Hale Swaffam area. (I know my Grandmother came from Swaffam). His first names were GEORGE HENRY and he was born as far as I know in 1899. I also believe that either his father or grandfather was called Benjamin. I will have to find out more information from my father, as he has old birth certificates, but any family tree history you have would be brilliant to know about.
Many thanks,
Paul

Hi Paul
Saw your note above to Marek
I've got the Stebbings (Holme Hale branch) back to 1766.
Holme Hale registers say that George Henry DIED in 1899 (aged 24). Benjamin (1825-1894) was his grandfather.
I've not had a lot of success getting back in touch by e-mail with Marek or Peter - hope I have more success with you.(hence forum and e-mail)
Get in touch if you're interested or would like more information
Cheers
Rod Stebbings

Hello Rod,
I have been tracing the POWLEY family of Holme Hale, etc., and I have an Eleanor (AKA Ellen) POWLEY who married William STEBBINGS 21 Sep 1830 in Holme Hale. She had two or more children before marrying him. I'd be interested in knowing who his parents were. His birth may have been around 1798, probably Holme Hale. Is he related to your James and Elizabeth?
Appreciate your help!
Granny

Hello Granny,
Ellon Powley was married to my g,g,g, grandfather.
His father was James Stebbings( 1766 - 1834), he was a blacksmith, but that is all I know about him.
His mother was Elizabeth Cordy ( 1784 - 1865). She came from Holme Hale, she was baptised there in 1784. I think her parents where William and Elizabeth, but I cant be sure of that.
I have details ofWilliam and Ellon's children ( 10 of them) if that inyerests you.
Regards,
Marek

Hi Granny Lawrence
Ellen Powley(born 1803 in Holme Hale) was my great great grandmother. She married my great great grandfather William Stebbings(born 1812 in Weasenham) on 21 September 1830 at Holme Hale. She already had 2 sons William Powley(born 1824) and Peter Powley(born 1826 - deaf) by person(s) unknown.
William was the third child(of nine) of James Stebbings(b.1766) and Elizabeth(nee Cordy)(born 1784) and lived a very colourful life !!!! William married Ellen and had nine children including my great grandfather James Robert ( born1837) : the first three children kept Powley as their middle name.(Ann Powley Stebbings, Frances Powley Stebbings and John Powley Stebbings). Around the late 1850's it seems William did a 'runner' with a young girl, Sarah from Shipdham and set up home in Malton Yorkshire where they had six children. He died in Malton Workhouse(exhausted I should think !!) on 11 October 1887. Ellen , meanwhile, cast adrift or maybe she gave him his marching orders, lived with her son John Powley Stebbings(1861) ,became a housekeeper to Henry Gates(farmer) at Grimston(1871) and died 12 October 1885 at Grimston attended by her daughter Ann Curry(nee Ann Powley Stebbings)
Hope you find this useful. I can't write the whole family history here but if you would like any more information please keep in touch.
Rod
PS We've been having Broadband problems and there might be delays in future - hope not.!!

Hi Marek
Glad to see you're active again!!
We're obviously more closely related than I thought!! Which one of Williams sons was your great great grandfather??? My great grandfather was James Robert (born 1837) .Would still like to see your old family tree if that would be possible??
Keep in touch

Hi in your research have you come across the jolly farmers inn in holme hale? We moved to the village last year and believe it closed as an inn in 1906.
Thanks
